LED CASES

R v MJW (May 2019) - defence junior (led by Claire Howell) in a multi-handed drugs conspiracy, where MJW was alleged to be the ‘ring-leader’. After consideration of two psychiatric reports assessing Battered Woman Syndrome, MJW entered a guilty plea and presented the psychiatric evidence as part of extensive mitigation. Involved reviewing medical, custody and psychiatric records, as well as undercover officer footage, and compiling a schedule for the court.

West Sussex County Council v AM & LPG (February - March 2019) - instructed by WSCC’s Trading Standards Department, led by Richard Heller. Six-week trial of a company and its Director for Fraudulent Trading and breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. The case involved complex legal argument on time limits, abuse of process, admissibility of evidence and the directions which should be given to the jury regarding the Regulations.

R v CD (Isleworth Crown Court, February 2020) - represented a woman at trial for Wounding with Intent (section 18) with a weapon.

R v DR (Southampton Crown Court, January 2020) - secured an acquittal at half-time for client charged with Threatening with a Bladed Article in a public place.

R v CD (Isleworth Crown Court, November 2019) - acquittal on 2 counts of Possession with Intent to Supply Class A drugs, arguing no intent to supply the drugs which were found on her person.

R v BM (Wood Green Crown Court, November 2018) - represented a man charged with Fraud in a four-day trial which resulted in a hung jury. Crown decided not to proceed with a re-trial. Involved cross-examination of four witnesses as to their business practices.

R v GB (St Albans Crown Court, November 2018) - acquittal on two counts of Sexual Assault. Case proceeded in the absence of the defendant as he had gone back to Romania. Both assaults were alleged to have taken place at a care home. Involved cross-examination of the complainant, a carer who worked with the defendant at the time of the allegation. 

R v AM: (Guildford Crown Court, August 2018) - secured an acquittal after trial for a racially-aggravated s4 Public Order Act offence.

R v CP: (Winchester Crown Court, August 2018) - successfully argued against activation of a suspended sentence for drugs offence.

R v SR: (Folkestone Magistrates’ Court, August 2018) - acquittal in a Burglary case after lengthy legal argument regarding lack of disclosure.

R v LM: (Harrow Crown Court, July 2018) - obtained a Community Order for client charged with money laundering over £19,000.

R v KJ: (Huntingdon Youth Court, July 2018) - acquittal in a Robbery case after half-time submission.
