Claire Matthews successfully prosecutes gang of six involved in violent kidnapping

Claire Matthews recently secured convictions at Peterborough Crown Court for six members of a gang who kidnapped a man and demanded £20,000 in ransom for his safe return. The six men stripped and beat their victim after luring him to a property belonging to an innocent member of the public, on the premise of to selling him a designer watch. While carrying out the attack, the gang rang his family and demanded £20,000 for his release. The ransom was collected and the victim was left tied up in a car at around 5am the following day to be collected by his family.

The gang were sentenced to a total of 49 years between them for conspiracy to kidnap.

Det Sgt Andy Crocker, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "The sentences given to this group reflect the severity of the crime. It has had a profound effect on the victim, his family, and the innocent member of public whose home was invaded during the incident."
