Drystone Chambers pupil Alex East secures acquittal in case involving Clare’s Law.

1 December 2021

Drystone Chambers’ Pupil barrister Alex East, instructed by SMQ Legal, successfully defended his client charged with sending a false message by public electronic communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety. In essence she was accused of making a Clare’s Law request containing false allegations of domestic abuse in relation to her neighbour.

Alex’s client was acquitted as whilst the bench believed some of the report to be false they were persuaded it wasn’t her purpose to cause annoyance, anxiety or inconvenience.
