Jonathan Green's client acquitted as high-profile police corruption trial collapses.

29 January 2016

Jonathan Green, led by Sam Stein QC and instructed by Lewis Nedas & Co, acted for a former Metropolitan Police officer in a high-profile case at Southwark Crown Court which was sensationally dropped by the prosecution last week.

Jonathan's client, Clifford Knuckey, was the director of a firm of private investigators at the centre of claims that serving police officers received corrupt payments during the investigation and prosecution for money-laundering of James Ibori, the former Governor of Nigeria's oil-rich Delta State, and his UK solicitor, Bhadresh Gohil.

Throughout the proceedings, the prosecution had consistently refused to disclose material relating to the police's internal investigation into these corruption allegations. However, a week before trial, Jonathan's disclosure arguments led to a high-level review of the case, which resulted in the prosecution offering no evidence against both defendants, who were both acquitted by the Judge.
