Julian Norman in successful appeal against mobilisation
24 July 2019
Julian Norman, instructed by Sterling Law Associates, successfully represented the Appellant who feared persecution in Ukraine arising from his refusal to perform military service. This was an unusual case in which the Appellant had a 'white ticket' exemption, deeming him unfit for military service in times of peace but fit in times of conflict. He now faced mobilisation and prosecution for refusal. The Secretary of State did not accept that someone previously exempt would be recruited at all. Supported by a report from the notable expert Mark Galeotti, Julian was able to show that the Appellant faced imprisonment on return and the appeal was allowed.
