Oliver Haswell on the importation of prohibited goods
26 October 2017
Serious Crime specialist Oliver Haswell writes on the situation regarding importation of child sex dolls – are the Courts dealing with this (sadly increasing) area of crime in the correct way? Current legislation means perpetrators are prosecuted under the Customs & Excise Management Act 1979 (CEMA), drafted at the time to cover offences surrounding the importation of pornographic videos and magazines. This Act does not seem to cover the gravity of the offence, nor is there a proportionate guideline in place for sentencing those found guilty of this new type of offence.
