Sharmistha Michaels appointed as Legally Qualified Chair of Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service

10 July 2019

Chambers congratulate Sharmistha Michaels on her recent appointment as a Legally Qualified Chair of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) makes independent decisions about doctors’ fitness to practise when cases are referred to them by the General Medical Council (GMC). They are a statutory committee of the GMC but are entirely independent in their decision making. The MPTS was created as an independent Tribunal system, to hear cases of fitness to practice for the GMC. Those who sit as legal and lay members are independent of the GMC.
