Stephen Donnelly successfully represents former aide to Shadow Minister for Equalities

1 August 2018

Following a seven-day trial Jenny Clarke, represented by Stephen Donnelly, was acquitted yesterday at Cardiff Crown Court on charges of forgery and fraud. Jenny Clarke was the office manager for Carolyn Harris, Shadow Minister for Equalities and Deputy Leader of the Welsh Labour Party.

The allegations had been made by Ms Harris, the Member of Parliament for the Swansea East constituency; she said that Ms Clarke had altered her own terms of employment and submitted a forged document which gave her a salary increase. The jury heard evidence that Mrs Harris had consistently used homophobic language towards Ms Clarke and had ‘outed’ her to a work colleague. It was also asserted that Mrs Harris had assaulted Ms Clarke by pulling tufts of hair from her head.
