Ahmed Muen secured a notable acquittal in a false imprisonment case heard at Southwark Crown Court. Instructed by Alison Morgan of CLP Solicitors, Ahmed successfully defended his client accused of multiple serious offences that carried the risk of significant custodial sentences if convicted.
The defendant stood trial on four serious counts:
These charges arose from Prosecution claims that the defendant was the head of a reputed North West London drugs gang.
The Prosecution contended that the defendant and his associates had taken over the complainant’s flat, detaining him for approximately three months. During this period, the complainant alleged he was, repeatedly assaulted, deprived of food, and coerced into handling and preparing drugs. He further claimed he was threatened with a firearm and a “zombie knife,” and force-fed Class A substances in order to make him reliant and subservient.
The Prosecution asserted that the flat served as a base for the distribution of significant quantities of Class A drugs during the period of imprisonment. The complainant reportedly escaped when the opportunity arose and alerted the authorities. Firearms officers arrested the defendant at the scene. A subsequent search uncovered cash, various bladed weapons, drugs, and an imitation firearm, which the Prosecution claimed was connected to the defendant through DNA evidence.
Despite the gravity of the allegations and the Prosecution’s presentation of forensic evidence, the defence succeeded in dismantling the case against the defendant. Ahmed cross examined the complainant over two days, and was able to draw out various inconsistencies in the evidence. After careful analysis of cell site, call data records and CCTV evidence Ahmed was able to significantly undermine the credibility of the complainant’s allegations. After a contested trial, the jury at Southwark Crown Court unanimously acquitted the defendant of all charges in less than two hours, demonstrating the effectiveness of Ahmed Muen’s demolition of the Prosecution’s case.
Ahmed Muen was called to the bar in 2014 and is ranked as a Leading Junior in Legal 500 which quotes “Ahmed is an absolute star in court”. Ahmed is instructed in cases of a serious and complex nature with particular emphasis in gangs and organised crime.
