Prior to commencing pupillage, Anisa worked as a paralegal for two years at Shearman Bowen. She supported a partner of the firm and gained significant experience in complex sexual assault cases. She also assisted on cases involving serious violence, EncroChat conspiracies, bribery, fraud and money laundering whilst having conduct of cases in the Crown Court.

Anisa has considerable experience in establishing genuine rapport with professional and lay clients. She has represented vulnerable defendants and those who have a history of mental health issues. Anisa is skilled at identifying and instructing experts where appropriate.

Anisa was selected as one of the first fellows by The Sentencing Academy to produce a research paper. She published a paper on the impact of short custodial sentences on women and children and considered whether suspended sentences would better protect the interests of their children. Anisa remains interested in this area.

Notable General Crime cases


R v SJ [2025] Kingston Crown Court

Anisa represented a vulnerable client charged with stalking (involving serious alarm/distress) and threatening to share an intimate photograph. The seriousness of the offences meant that the custody threshold had been met. After extensive mitigation Anisa successfully persuaded the judge that the offence fell into a lower category and obtained a community order of 24 months with requirements as opposed to a 10-month custodial sentence.


R v LC [2025] Snaresbrook Crown Court

Represented a client charged with breaching his suspended sentence (“SSO”) by failing to comply with his community requirements and committing three further offences shortly after the SSO was imposed. Anisa successfully persuaded the Judge to not activate the SSO. The SSO was extended with no additional hours to his unpaid work or RAR days. An additional SSO was imposed for the further offences to run concurrently.


R v JS [2025] Medway Magistrates' Court

Represented a client charged with common assault at trial and secured an acquittal. Anisa highlighted the inconsistencies in the recollection of the Crown’s only witness.


R v JB [2025] Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court

Anisa succeeded in persuading the Crown to offer no evidence against her client charged with common assault. Anisa made representations that there were concerns surrounding the Crown’s evidence which would result in an unfair trial. The case was dismissed.


R v JB [2025] Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court

Anisa represented a client charged with a public order offence (Section 4a). She made representations that the Crown had failed to serve key evidence before the day of trial. Following oral arguments, the Crown offered no evidence against her client.


R v TR [2025] Bromley Magistrates' Court

Represented a client charged with harassment (without violence) and sending communications to cause alarm/distress. Anisa’s client suffered from mental health illnesses and after successful mitigation, he was sentenced to a 12-month community order and a fine.


R v MH [2025] Ealing Magistrates' Court

Anisa represented a client charged with intentional strangulation and assault by beating in a domestic violence context. Anisa persuaded the magistrates court to retain jurisdiction and after persuasive mitigation secured a Community Order of 18 months with conditions.


R v TO [2025] High Wycombe Magistrates' Court

Represented a client charged which breaching his suspended sentence order. Anisa successfully made representations to probation who withdrew all the breaches.

Notable Driving Offences cases


R v MI [2025] Wood Green Crown Court

Anisa represented a client convicted of dangerous driving. This case involved a highly dangerous manoeuvre which resulted in a head on collision with another vehicle. The defendant was driving with children in the car and everyone involved in the collision sustained multiple injuries. The Judge placed this offence into the highest category (A1) and made clear that this case clearly crossed the custody threshold. Anisa succeeded in persuading the Judge to impose a suspended sentence with conditions.


R v OW [2025] Bromley Magistrates' Court

Represented a client charged with taking a vehicle without consent. Anisa called her client to give evidence. The case concluded with an acquittal after trial.


R v JB [2025] Ealing Magistrates' Court

Represented a client charged with driving with no insurance. Anisa succeeded in persuading the Crown to discontinue proceedings as the client had a defence under s.143(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988. The case was dismissed.


R v SS [2025] Norwich Magistrates' Court

Represented a client charged with drink driving. After successful mitigation, the client was disqualified for 15 months and fined. He was offered the Drink Drive Rehabilitation course which will lower his disqualification period after successful completion.

Notable Youth Court cases


R v L [2025] Portsmouth Youth Court

Anisa represented a youth client charged with s.18 GBH (wounding with intent) at trial and secured an acquittal. Her client was alleged to have stabbed another youth when he was 15 years old. This case involved careful cross-examination of a child witness which enabled Anisa to highlight the inconsistencies in their account. Her client was found not guilty and retained his good character.


R v P [2025] Croydon Youth Court

Represented a youth client who was involved in two violent robberies. Anisa successfully secured a Youth Referral Order.
