Bethany Birkett
Call 2024
Before commencing pupillage, Bethany managed the Witness Service across Buckinghamshire’s Crown and Magistrates’ courts, during which she advocated for witness’ rights and needs throughout the trial process. Bethany gained considerable experience supporting victims of sexual and domestic violence, as well as fraud and serious violent offences. She frequently supported young and vulnerable victims, including those requiring intermediaries.
Bethany’s pro bono experience includes volunteering for an Access to Justice Clinic, during which she conducted client interviews, conducted legal research, and drafted advice letters for members of the public with a range of legal issues.
In January 2025, Bethany was awarded the Alexander Cameron KC Memorial Prize. She prosecuted and defended mock trials for various offences, including theft and sexual assault. Winning the final at the Old Bailey, Bethany defended criminal damage and ABH charges; she successfully opposed a hearsay application made without notice, forcing the prosecution to offer no evidence on one charge.
