Following a 9 week trial at the Wolverhampton Crown Court, Ahmed Muen’s client was acquitted of murder in a drive-by shooting case. Ahmed was led by Nicholas Corsellis K.C. and instructed by Yaser Taj of MI Solicitors.
The prosecution case was that this was a planned gang land shooting over the disputed drug territory. The shooting took place in broad daylight outside a primary school at around 3.00pm. Six shots were fired from a from a car towards a group of three men. One was killed and another seriously injured. The prosecution focused on communications between the defendants and substantial CCTV evidence to show this was a planned murder. Following the shooting the defendant attempted to escape the jurisdiction. Ahmed represented the lead defendant on the indictment.
However, through meticulous preparation and reviewing hours of CCTV and all the communication evidence, the defence were able to show there was no plan on behalf of the defendant. The defence argued this was a robbery, which went drastically wrong. Following a 9 week trial, the jury unanimously acquitted the first defendant of murder, and he was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Ahmed Muen was called to the bar in 2014. He is ranked as Leading Junior in Legal500 and Chambers and Partners.
