Richard’s client was unanimously acquitted following two hours of deliberations. The crown alleged that the defendant was involved in organised crime and played a key role, in conjunction with others, in purchasing 8kg of cocaine witnessed by a police surveillance operation.
The case involved the detailed examination of surveillance logs as to their timings and methodology of record keeping.
The crown relied on expert analysis of the token system with banknotes in drug supply cases. This evidence was evaluated in detail by the defence as to its structure in theory in comparison to the practical facts of this case.
The defendant’s phone records were considered to compare events on the day of the allegation to historical phone usage over the previous year.
