Alex East


Prior to pupillage Alex travelled extensively to 45 countries across Europe, South America, Central America, North America, Africa and Asia to experience different cultures. He also lived in Beijing and Kuala Lumpur for a time teaching English as a foreign language. During the practising element of his pupillage Alex has been busy both prosecuting and defending in the Magistrates and Crown Courts throughout London and East Anglia.

In the Magistrates Court his cases have included malicious communications, assault, racially aggravated assault, theft and also a stalking protection order and closure order. In the Crown Court he has acted in cases involving bladed articles, breaches of restraining order drugs related matters. He has prosecuted on behalf of the Metropolitan Police and local authorities.

Interesting cases
Alex secured an acquittal for his client who was accused of making a Clare’s Law request containing false allegations of domestic abuse in relation to a neighbour. Further details here.

Alex successfully defended in a contested stalking protection order in Suffolk. 

Alex defended in a domestic violence trial in which he made a successful submission of no case to answer.

Voluntary work

Ipswich Disabled Advice Bureau. A voluntary role working on appeals and representing clients in hearings before their appeal tribunal.

Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality. Worked as a volunteer paralegal.
